Griffins had fun at the PBIS School-Wide Celebration!
Grant Wood students earned a school-wide celebration on Wednesday, March 5th after having 10 days with no behavior referrals in the month of February. Students were able to choose activities for free time that included painting, dancing, yoga, and building things (just to name a few). Students and teachers had a great time celebrating together.

Thanks to all who attended Books, Bagels, and Bananas!
On March 19th we held our Books, Bagels, and Bananas Family Event and 60 families were able to join our staff to celebrate literacy. Our theme was asking and answering questions while reading. Each child chose two books to take home, decorated a banana bookmark, assembled a question cube to use when they read at home, and many students won door prizes including games like Scrabble and Charades. Everyone seemed to have a great time and it was both fun and informational. If you were unable to attend this year, we would love to see your family there next year!
Thanks to all who came to Barnes & Noble Night!
“Barnes and Noble Night: Celebrating Veterans” was a very special evening. 55 families attended our family event and they took home lots of books to read!! Families listened to veterans and parents read stories about bravery and enjoyed moving patriotic performances by the fourth grade singers and the Hawkeye Marching Band Alumni. There was such a great response to the Literacy and Veteran’s Day celebration that we already booked the date for next year.
Griffin Great Table
One of the ways our students can receive a school-wide reward is by earning a seat at the Griffin Great table for lunch. Students that demonstrate the big 3, Respectful, Responsible, and Safe behaviors are put into a weekly drawing to win a chance to be a Griffin Great. It is a treat to sit at the Griffin Great table. Students sit at a special table outside the cafeteria and enjoy music at a table covered with a tablecloth and “candle-lighting,” decorated with flowers as the centerpiece. We are proud of our students who earn this privilege. We are confident every student will get the chance to sit at the Griffin Great table this year. Ask your child if they’ve had the opportunity!
